Originally from the world of digital marketing and brand design, Amadi Grey has ventured into several different careers, eventually arriving to his current destination in the dental industry. Turns out, a Google search of 'how can I make money for myself?' builds a path to excellence! Learn about how he ran away from an acting career, a video game development and a massive marketing empire to sink deeper into doing what he really wanted to do. He has built an incredible animate series called Brush Brigade about a team of tooth fairies determined to collect teeth and protect against rotten teeth! What's more: Amadi is offering a coloring book for the Brush Brigade: www.amadibrands.com/toothlife! Check out the pilot for his amazing series!

Monday Nov 22, 2021
The Tooth or Dare Podcast welcomes Justin Moody to the Podcast.
Graduating from Crawford High School in 1989 and attended the University of Nebraska at Lincoln studying Biological Sciences.
While in dental school he was awarded the National Disaster Medical System Appreciation letter for his efforts during the Oklahoma City Bombing, the Teledyne Removable Prothedontic outstanding student award, the Oral Pathology outstanding student award, and completed a mini-residency in the Advanced Education in General Dentistry department.
Learning didn’t stop after graduating from dental school, Dr. Moody knew that incorporating dental implants into his practice was the right thing to do for his patients. He attended the prestigious Misch International Implant Institute where he was awarded a fellowship and mastership.
Providing quality dental care to rural America is a priority of Dr. Moody’s, he is the owner of Horizon West Dental Group which has multiple locations in western Nebraska providing state of the art dental care with the latest in technology by some of the most highly trained dentists around.
In 2008 Dr. Moody limited his practice to the field of dental implants by opening the first Dental Implant Center in Rapid City South Dakota.
___________________________________________________
In this episode, we were live at AAID! Dr. Moody talks about how he got into implant dentistry, practicing with his childhood dentist, and a few of the strangest things he’s seen in his practice.
This superhero helped change lives in rural Nebraska by educating patients on the importance of modern practices. While treating his patients, he discovered that dentures, partials, and bridges were not the best solutions and that dental implants were the way to go.
Lastly, he discusses a few things that hygienists need to know when someone has gotten an implant done by someone else, in order to spot early signs of an implant failure.
Stay tuned until the very end of the podcast for a spicy conversation! Let us know what you peeps think about it.

#93 - Karen Daw: The OSHA Lady
Saturday Nov 13, 2021
Saturday Nov 13, 2021
Today we welcome the fabulous Karen Daw also known as The Osha Lady!
Karen is an award-winning national speaker, author of numerous articles and CE courses on safety in dentistry, and a trainer for practices and healthcare systems across the United States. She earned her BA from the Ohio State University and her MBA with concentrations in Healthcare Administration and Business Management.
After graduating, Karen was recruited from the Emergency Department to her roles as Assistant Director of Sterilization Monitoring and Health and Safety Director for the OSU College of Dentistry.
She is a proud member of the Organization for Safety Asepsis and Prevention, where she also served as co-chair for their Annual Conference and Infection Control Boot Camp.
This episode is generously sponsored by our peeps at the Hu-Friedy group! As dental professionals, our PPE is necessary for the safety of both our patients and team members throughout the practice.
In regard to the masks we wear though, it's not one size fits all and when we talk about protection and infection control the fit is everything! That is where the Hu-Friedy Secure Fit masks come in! Irene uses these exclusively in her practice! Secure Fit masks feature aluminum nose and chin pinch mechanisms at the top over the nose and also at the bottom under the chin to help reduce gapping.
This allows the wearer to customize the mask to their face for optimal fit and protection without sacrificing comfort! And when industry experts are recommending that we change our masks every 20 minutes during procedures with heavy fluid and aerosol exposure to avoid wicking, we could use something with a comfortable fit! Am I right?!
Learn more about Secure Fit masks at the link below as well as the link to the Friends of Hu-Friedy blog!

In today's episode, Karen discusses with Irene and Katrina how she got into OSHA and dentistry including how she decided to go out on her own with her business and her approach to get people excited when learning about workplace safety!
They talk about what OSHA actually is and how it parallels with Canada's WHMIS, and what trainings are mandatory for US dental practices as well as who in the office should be required to train. She discusses the importance of building a culture of safety within your practice and what she recommends when it comes to having difficult conversations regarding safety practices and compliance.
Lastly, she shares a story of one of the worst things she's encountered on the job and how she has pivoted her business during the Covid-19 pandemic! We think you'll love her as much as we do!

This episode was generously sponsored by our Peeps at Philips who have created a product that has Irene mindblown. Check out Zoom Delivered as a solution for freeing up chair time and getting your patients their custom whitening treatment delivered straight to their door.
Are you still taking Alginate impression to fabricate your take-home whitening trays when your office has a digital scanner?
Irene 1.0 used to take alginates and spend an hour in the lab before work, between patients and after work to ensure the models were perfectly poured, trays nicely scalloped and perfectly made to deliver on time. A second visit was required to insert and provide instructions, which took up more chair time.
Now that I have a digital scanner, I'm able to use Zoom Delivered to successfully send for custom trays, treatment and delivery directly to my patient within 7 business days. @philipssonicarepro

#83 - @DrChrisK Come at me, Bro with Dr. Chris Kammer
Monday Jun 21, 2021
Monday Jun 21, 2021
For more than 20 years, Dr. Chris Kammer has been at the forefront of emerging technologies and ideas in dentistry, and has become one of America’s most vocal advocates for the "oral systemic" approach for disease prevention. He's the founding father, first president, and 6 year board member of the American Academy for Oral Systemic Health (AAOSH), an organization that has partnered with the world class medical experts from the Cleveland Clinic to educate physicians and dental teams on the critical significance of how the health of the mouth impacts the health of the body.
Check out the AAOSH podcast with Dr. Chris Kammer and Machell Hudson, RDH!
https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/time-to-live/id1515774700
Dr. Kammer has been a chief dental consultant for Reader’s Digest, and has been quoted in many publications including USA Today, The New York Times, Cosmopolitan, Redbook, and Woman’s Day. He was featured on ABC World News Tonight with Diane Sawyer as their Person of the Week. He has also appeared widely on national television and radio programs including The Today show, Fox and Friends, CBS MarketWatch, CNN, NPR, Montel Williams, Late Night with David Letterman and even American Idol where his original song “Get Out the Brush” reached a viewing audience of 25 million people.
Dr. Kammer was one of the first clinicians in America to develop a protocol for disease prevention with the oral systemic approach, using his comprehensive “Gums of Steel” program. He has helped bring the practice of oral systemics from its early philosophical stage to its current widespread recognition as an important whole body healing approach that integrates medicine and dentistry and he has the studies and results to back it up.
In this extremely entertaining conversation with America’s favorite singing dentist, Irene and Katrina get into the details of Dr. Chris Kammers no-drill dental practice, Dr. Kammer’s experience on American Idol, and the efficacy of Silver Diamine Fluoride for advanced decay.
We cover some of these topics and much more:
- Why should you start dental practice?

Holly Anne Mitchell is a speaker, coach and hypnotist in the dental industry. Her life can be summed up in two words: post-traumatic growth. Holly moved to New York City from rural Florida at the age of 18 with dreams of Broadway. From actress, to homeless, to dental C-suite, to struggling entrepreneur, after a crisis of burnout and existentialism, she found her way to hypnosis and neuro-linguistic programming, forever changing her brain, and her life.
This was the catalyst to start her own business, the LeadWell Network. Holly trains dentists and their teams on mental health first aid, helping practices become more trauma aware, prevent suicide, burnout, and reduce symptoms of anxiety and depression with simple tools based in practical neuroscience. Holly regulates her own nervous system through songwriting, self-hypnosis, poetry, boxing, and long-distance running. She is a faculty member of the Dental Speakers Institute Fellowship program, and is excited to announce her first book "Try Self Hypnosis" will enter the world this summer. In her free time Holly is a singer/songwriter with her lifemate and bandmate Javier in Nashville.
For a free episode of Holly's online course and to preorder her book, visit TrySelfHypnosis.com
On this episode, we cover some of these topics and much more:
- What is neuro-linguistic programming?
- How can we identify and break out of patterns that hurt us?
- Where can we find freedom in our schedule as hygienists?
- How can I become comfortable with profound grief?
- Have we finally found the cause of Irene’s hives?

Welcome back, Peeps!
We feel so lucky to have with us industry leader, educator, textbook author, and leading expert on the subject of gum disease, Dr. Tim Donley. In classic form, we rewind all the way back to Dr. Donley’s early years of failing out of dental school and generally having no idea what to do with life. Eventually, he improvised unique ways to place himself at the forefront of gum disease treatment and education. We share our horror stories of keynote speeches gone wrong, talk about the future of dentistry, and about the flawed thinking that keeps hygienists from reaching their potential.
We cover these topics and much more:
- How can we completely rethink the hour hygienists have with their patients?
- Should dental hygienists be probing implants?
- Are lasers in periodontics any good?
- What piece of equipment do you bring to a desert island?
Dr. Donley is his own words:
I am a bad-ass periodontist who is the biggest supporter of dental hygiene on the planet. The most important health care provider a patient can see if they want to maximize their chance to achieve the fruits of wellness is a dental hygienist. Not just any hygienist, one that gets that it is time to do more than just clean teeth.
I believe that the best way to grow as a person is to help someone else grow as a person. Oh yea, I also love to take the tops off of double stuff Oreos and then put them together to make Quadruple stuff Oreos.

https://www.decisiononedental.com/
Today is the day: Dr. AJ Acierno, the CEO of DecisionOne Dental joins us to dish some indispensable facts about the state of the dental and healthcare industry. Dr. Acierno currently runs 30+ offices with Decision One dental and shares in explicit detail the do’s and don’ts of both managing and purchasing a dental office.
He and his brother have together built a dental empire in Chicago and beyond. We talk about turning a $500,000 a year dental practice into a $2.2 million a year practice, the precise amount of doctors and patients each office should have, and how to scale your business with little to no marketing budget. These claims would sound absurd if they weren’t coming from the man who did it all himself, Dr. AJ Acierno!
Dr. Acierno answers these questions and much more:
- What is a good annual profit for a dental office?
- When is the right time to scale your dental business?
- How do you know when you take on a new doctor?
- How do you know when you’re running a successful dental practice?

Katrina Klein, RDH, CEAS, CPT
Welcome back, Peeps!
As we herald in a new year, it’s probably about time that we drag ourselves to the gym (or open the rowing machine that’s been sitting in its box for months).
This week on the third mic we are happy to have Katrina Klein, the founder of ErgoFit Life. In her decade-long career as an RDH (while moonlighting as a bodybuilder), Katrina came to recognize the health issues that all medical professionals face in their work. She speaks from experience when it comes to working and living healthier as a dental professional. In her work she offers individualized assessments and workout routines focused on workers in the medical field. We talk about chronic pain, preventative ergonomics, and how to live and work in a dental office pain-free. Katrina Klein provides some tangible ways we can build a program for ourselves that serves our unique needs.
We answer these questions and much more:
- Do Dental Hygienists have bad backs?
- How can I work out and work full time?
- Does working out improve metabolism?
- What is an ergonomic assessment?
Katrina’s Biography:
For Katrina Klein, ergonomics is everything. She is a full time practicing Registered Dental Hygienist - has been for 13 years and counting. She knows firsthand the struggle of working in a stationary, inflexible environment. Katrina has dedicated herself to helping others prevent injury in the workplace, free themselves from physical discomfort in their dental career, and to retire without a disability. Whether instructing individual clinicians, small or large groups, she is passionate about teaching others to work smarter, not harder. She has been published in DentalTown Magazine and has more articles on the way!
As a competitive bodybuilder and personal trainer, Katrina has attained a unique understanding of the biomechanics behind clinical ergonomics. Her credentials include certification as an Ergonomics Assessment Specialist, which has given her the expertise and training to help provide safer procedures through proper ergonomics.
Thank you to our peeps at Dentsply Sirona for sponsoring our 60th episode holy molar!
While Irene is at home scratching her hives, her team is eagerly awaiting the training on their brand new and amazingly awesome SiroLaser that has so many features that can be utilized by both doctors and hygienists.
Irene shares her reasons for patiently awaiting its release here in Canada, some of those reasons being the ability to set procedure fav's for easy use during the treatment time.
- Debridement of the diseased epithelial lining
- Laser removal of diseased, infected, inflamed and necrosed soft tissue within the periodontal pocket
- Laser soft tissue curettage
- Sulcular debridement (removal of diseased, infected, inflamed and
the necrosed soft tissue in the periodontal pocket to
improve clinical indices including gingival index, gingival bleeding index, probe depth, attachment loss and tooth inability)
Katrina shares some important information on the recent investigation around pathogen reduction with Lasers and the connection to ultrasonics, aerosols and a very informative article written by Noel Paschke titled, "A Path of Fewer Aerosols with Ultrasonics"

Thursday Dec 31, 2020
Namaste, peeps!
Dr. Christian and Dr. Danielle AKA the Dental Yogis join us for their second guest appearance on the podcast (listen to their first appearance here!). The Dental Yogis talk about bringing spirituality not only into the dental setting but into all of our daily lives. In the words of Dr. Christian, it is this couples’ goal to bring a postural awareness gained through yoga into a comprehensive dentistry practice. The Yogis talk about their history of extremely difficult and life-affirming decisions to get where they are now.
When Christian and Danielle are not hosting Yoga classes for dental professionals on Instagram live, they are collaborating on holistic smile transformation surgery which accounts for the mind-body and spirit of every patient. Their radically compassionate form of dentistry approaches oral surgery as a wellness retreat, where the smile is only one factor in a whole-body transformation.
The Dental Yogis also go into detail on how they devised an upcoming service trip/wellness retreat in the Dominican Jungle, where dentists and hygienists can provide dental services to the Dominican population while becoming acquainted with their body, mind, and the energy that surrounds us all. Read all about the retreat which takes place from Feb. 7-14 on their website at www.dentalyogis.com/mission
The Dental Yogis’ Bio:
Dr. Danielle Cascioli and Dr. Cristian Pavel practice dentistry about 10 miles apart in downtown Chicago, but something much deeper connects them. The couple, who have been together since before dental school, share a love for yoga, and they want to introduce the benefits of the ancient discipline to their colleagues in the profession.
“As dentists, we most commonly express our souls through our art and service to our communities,” Dr. Pavel said. “Practicing yoga helps to highlight these expressions in order to bring more joy and awareness onto every aspect of our profession. Having a deeper connection with yourself also allows for much richer connections with your patients and an overall richer life experience.”
Drs. Cascioli and Pavel teach yoga and offer life coaching to other dental professionals through a practice called the Dental Yogis. They’ve developed a program that uses the principles of yoga and its physical, mental and spiritual disciplines to provide students “the freedom to create a transformation map towards the life of your dreams.”

Today, Emily Boge designs dental instruments, is a Dental Administrative Chair and is an active speaker and writer in the dental community. Her innovative spirit is apparent in her work and her drive to push skills to new limits. It is such a joy to have this lifelong academic on our show to talk about the state of dental hygienist programs and what dental school is really all about.

- How hard should dental courses be?
- What does it take to be a great dental educator?

Today we are joined by Jasmine Capra, dental hygienist and founder of JustFlossIt. She is known for her often hilarious tik tok, her highly informative Instagram, and her now her brand new podcast! We talk at length about the day to day reality of the life of a dental professional and influencer. We have admired Jasmine’s honesty on social media and the way she weaves polished sponsored content into her online personality while never compromising her truest self.
Despite what you've heard, free floss does not pay the bills! Some of the topics covered include negotiating sponsored social media contracts, the real amount of time it takes to be a dental influencer, and visions of a future of a more compassionate and forgiving social media environment.
Pick up the new comfy, cozy, embroidered JustFlossIt crewneck sweater on Jasmine’s website!
We cover some of these topics and much more:
- How do you negotiate a paid partnership on Instagram?
- How much is one Instagram post worth?
- Do you have any advice for a first time sponsored post?
- How does a dental hygienist respond to rude patients?
- Will Irene ever win rock, paper, scissors?
Jasmine Capra in her own words:
“To begin, my father came here from Mexico around the age of 16. After pursuing a career as a dental hygienist, he began to enlighten me of the profession. Seeing the profound effect he had on changing people’s smiles and oral health, I knew I had to be apart of it as well. My father later followed his passion by going back to school and becoming a dentist. To me, I view this as the epitome of the “American Dream,” that I am so proud to be apart of.
As a new grad and entering the field, I have decided to share my journey with you all. I created “Justflossit,” as a way to enlighten people not only in the healthcare field but also everybody who is anybody about oral health.
Justflossit partners with brands both locally and internationally from oral healthcare needs to fashion. I pride myself on only standing by products I truly believe in.”

#52 - Randy Houska "They call me Dr. Chelsea's dad"
Tuesday Nov 03, 2020
Tuesday Nov 03, 2020
This week we are joined by an accomplished dentist and father of Teen Mom star Chelsea Houska, Dr. Randy ‘PapaRandilicious’ Houska! Stay tuned for his extra special and heart-rending Tooth or Dare at the end of the episode.
Big thanks to our sponsors at Dentsply Sirona for this amazing episode and encouraging Irene to get a ProphyJet, she is absolutely obsessed and can not go without using it on nearly every patient. If you want your perio life to be changed, DM Irene so she can rant a bit about how much love she has for this piece of equipment!
A self-described Farm Boy, Randy Houska never had dreams of being a dentist. Growing up in the small town of Mitchell, South Dakota (home of the world’s only corn palace!), Dr. Houska knew he wanted to leave farm life behind and found his way into dental school at the University of Nebraska.
Randy tells the saga of Chelsea’s pregnancy at 16 and her subsequent journey into filming MTV’s “16 and Pregnant” and then “Teen Mom.” emotional growth that came from the show. He talks about the difficulty of being online as an MTV celebrity and swears that, of all social media, Reddit is by far the worst.
Dr. Houska shares information about his work with Implant Pathway and The New Horizon Dental Clinic in Tempe, Arizona where low-income families can receive high-quality healthcare at the lowest possible cost and new dentists can practice dental surgery.
As an MTV star, a father, and a widely experienced dentist, Randy Houska and answers our burning questions:
- Is Teen Mom scripted?
- What advice would you give to a teenage mom?
- As a dentist, how do you approach a patient you suspect might be experiencing abuse at home?
- Do dads roll into your DM's?
- Who's your favourite Canadian?
“You’ve gotta love yourself before you go lookin’ for another man”
-Randy Houska
Bio:
Dr. Randy Houska was raised in Mitchell, SD on a small farm and received a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Biology at the University of South Dakota. He received his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of Nebraska Medical Center, College of Dentistry in 1989. His post-graduate plans took him to Vermillion, SD, where he has had a private practice since then. After 25 years of private practice, he found a new love of dentistry focusing on implant dentistry. He can be found several times per year at implant focused on continuing education events.

Episode 49: Ana Bogdanovic: Your dental lab peeps have a story too
Monday Oct 12, 2020
Monday Oct 12, 2020
Today we have a very special guest Ana Bogdanovic, who takes us on a trip down memory lane through the days of bottle service, breast cancer, and bespoke dental laboratory marketing. Ana comes from two extremely talented dental parents, but she wasn’t always convinced that dentistry was her path.
She had a degree in marketing and worked in the service industry (when she first met Irene!) founded a successful up and coming jewelry company, but wasn’t totally sure of where life would take her. At 24, Ana was diagnosed with breast cancer. While breast cancer at such a young age is almost unheard of, Ana tells us she would go through every minute of chemo again because of the person it has helped her become.
Fast forward to today: Ana Bogdanovic has successfully created the Zann Dental Lab brand and image. She has brought her marketing expertise to the dental laboratory world and made her mark in the field, offering personalized and frankly beautiful design to her lab and professional newsletter. She walks us through the steps of making this dental business into a reality and how she navigated the unsure times in her life and career.
Ana dispenses some radical wisdom and answers some important questions, including:
● How do we find our passion for dentistry?
● How can I make my dental brand special?
● Is cancer painful?
● How can we see the humanity in our patients?
● How can we exceed expectations as a dental professional?
Ana drops some serious knowledge about learning to love oneself while pursuing her career aspirations that remain true to who we are.
